SBM Offshore has inaugurated its new office in Bengaluru, reinforcing the company’s long-term commitment to India as a strategic hub for global operations, engineering, and digital innovation.
The inauguration was attended by SBM Offshore Chief Executive Officer Øivind Tangen, along with Scott Sandlin, Country Chair – India, ExxonMobil, and Anne Cremers, Deputy Consul General at the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Bengaluru Facility Marks Expansion of India Operations
The new Bengaluru office represents a significant milestone in SBM Offshore’s continued expansion in India. The company currently employs approximately 790 professionals in the country and plans to add around 200 additional roles in the near term.
The expansion reflects SBM Offshore’s focus on building a future-ready workforce and strengthening India’s role within its global operations network.
India Team Supports Large-Scale Global Engineering Operations
SBM Offshore India plays a major role in supporting the company’s global operations across the full project lifecycle.
According to the company, the India team contributes nearly 70–80% of detailed engineering scope on projects and supports approximately 60% of global engineering activities. The India operations also function as a centralized hub for procurement, brownfield project execution, and lifecycle support activities.

Øivind Tangen, Chief Executive Officer, SBM Offshore, stated that India continues to play an increasingly important role in the company’s global delivery model.
He added that the Bengaluru office reflects SBM Offshore’s long-term commitment to investing in world-class talent and capabilities in India. According to Tangen, the India operations have evolved into a highly integrated hub supporting engineering, project execution, supply chain digital innovation, brownfield projects, and enabling functions.
Brathaban Karuppaiah, Country General Manager, SBM Offshore India, stated that Bengaluru operations have grown into a critical center of excellence combining engineering expertise, project delivery capabilities, and advanced digital competencies.
He further noted that the new office is designed to create a collaborative environment supporting seamless engagement with global teams while strengthening India’s role within SBM Offshore’s global ecosystem.
