Lonza Group AG has announced plans to establish a new Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad, strengthening the city’s position as a global hub for life sciences and biopharmaceutical innovation.
Engagement with Telangana Government
A delegation from the Switzerland-headquartered company met with D. Sridhar Babu and Shakthi M. Nagappan to formally communicate the decision and discuss preliminary plans for the new centre.
Lonza’s Global Presence
Founded in 1897 and headquartered in Switzerland, Lonza operates more than 30 sites worldwide and employs nearly 20,000 professionals globally. In 2025, the company reported sales of CHF 6.5 billion and a Core EBITDA of CHF 2.1 billion.
Hyderabad Selected After Evaluation
The decision to establish the GCC in Hyderabad follows an extensive evaluation process. The city was selected due to its strong life sciences talent pool, robust infrastructure, and supportive industrial ecosystem.
Over the past several months, senior representatives from Lonza have engaged with Telangana Lifesciences and the state’s Industries and Commerce Department to explore opportunities for collaboration.
Government Welcomes the Investment
Welcoming the investment, D. Sridhar Babu stated that the decision reflects Hyderabad’s growing reputation as a destination for global life sciences investments. He highlighted that the city’s scientific ecosystem, digital capabilities, and manufacturing infrastructure continue to attract leading international companies in the biopharmaceutical sector.
Strengthening the Life Sciences Ecosystem
Shakthi M. Nagappan noted that the decision marks another milestone in the expansion of Telangana’s life sciences ecosystem. He added that the organisation looks forward to working closely with Lonza to ensure the successful implementation of the project and support long-term value creation.
Employment and Global Integration
The new GCC is expected to create high-value employment opportunities while further integrating Hyderabad into the global biopharmaceutical value chain.
