Global technology major Cognizant has announced the expansion of its operations in India, reaffirming the country’s central role in the company’s global growth and delivery strategy. The announcement was made on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting in Davos.
India at the Core of Cognizant’s Growth Strategy
Cognizant leadership highlighted that India continues to be a key market for the company, driven by the depth and quality of its talent pool. The expansion is aimed at supporting increasing client demand and strengthening the company’s technology and innovation capabilities.
Expansion Across Tier-2 and Major Cities
As part of its growth plans, Cognizant has expanded into tier-2 cities including:
- Visakhapatnam
- Indore
- GIFT City (Gujarat)
In addition, the company is scaling operations in major technology hubs such as Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Pune. The city-wise expansion is aligned with client requirements and workforce availability.
Focus on AI and Emerging Technologies
Cognizant noted that a significant portion of the workforce supporting its AI-driven solutions for global clients is based in India. The company continues to hire fresh graduates from Indian educational institutions while also recruiting globally, reflecting India’s growing readiness for the AI era.
Role of Global Capability Centres (GCCs)
The company stated that Global Capability Centres (GCCs) remain an important part of its business strategy. Cognizant’s origins trace back to its beginnings as a GCC, and over the years it has supported enterprises in setting up and expanding their own GCCs.
Cognizant provides end-to-end support for GCCs, including:
- Greenfield GCC setup
- Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) models
- Expansion and operational support for existing GCCs
- Assistance across infrastructure, talent, recruitment, and training
