NLB Services has unveiled its report “Workforce 2.0 Reset – India’s GCCs Go AI-Native”, highlighting how AI adoption is transforming India’s Global Capability Centers (GCCs). With 58% of GCCs moving beyond AI pilots, the sector’s workforce is projected to reach 3.46 million by 2030, adding 1.3 million new roles, including 0.715 million in emerging Tier II and III cities.
AI Adoption Driving Workforce Evolution
- In 2025, 70% of GCCs invest in Generative AI (GenAI); by 2026, over 60% will have AI safety and governance teams, and 75% aim to embed GenAI in daily operations.
- Roles are being redefined: 27% of mid-level and 25% of junior tech roles now function alongside AI copilots and automation tools.
- Emerging AI-native roles include:
- Cybersecurity & AI Governance Architects (29%)
- Prompt Engineers (26%)
- GenAI Product Owners (22%)
- AI Policy & Risk Strategists (21%)
Shift to Tier II/III Cities
- GCCs are expanding beyond Tier-1 metros to cities like Coimbatore, Ahmedabad, and Bhubaneswar, benefiting from 10–12% lower attrition, 20–35% lower talent costs, and 30–50% lower office costs.
- By 2030, 39% of the GCC workforce will operate from these emerging hubs, complementing Tier-1 cities that remain centers for leadership, governance, and R&D.
Learning, Upskilling, and Talent Readiness
- 80% of GCCs are investing in continuous learning and internal mobility programs.
- Key approaches include role-specific reskilling journeys (18%), corporate academies (17%), and embedding AI into career frameworks (16%).
- 38% of GCCs hire externally to close GenAI skill gaps, while 22% develop in-house academies.
Leadership, Governance, and Sector Impact
- AI leadership maturity is strongest in Hyderabad (70%) and Bengaluru (69%), guiding global best practices.
- Sectors leading AI adoption: Telecom & Internet Services (70%), BFSI & Fintech (69%), Software & Consulting (65%), Media & Gaming (67%).
- Governance models are maturing: 33% of GCCs have central AI committees or CoEs, while 29% rely on decentralized oversight through business units.
The Road Ahead
The report highlights a decisive shift: India’s GCCs are no longer just experimenting with AI—they are institutionalizing it. Combined with supportive state policies and a growing STEM talent pool in non-metro regions, India is set to emerge as a global hub for AI-driven enterprise operations, innovation, and governance.
