Mohali IT City to Undergo World-Class Landscaping and Urban Beautification

The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) has announced plans for world-class landscaping and urban beautification in IT City, Mohali — a rapidly growing hub for technology, innovation, and global capability centers (GCCs).
Spread over 1,722 acres across Sectors 66-B, 82-A, 83-A, and 101-A, adjacent to Airport Road, IT City Mohali already hosts over 80 IT companies and GCCs, contributing to the state’s growth in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, KPO, and software development.
Transforming Mohali into Punjab’s Leading Tech Hub
With around 80 allocated plots and a built-up potential of 57 lakh sq. ft., IT City is expected to generate 1.14 lakh direct jobs and over 5 lakh indirect jobs in the coming years. The beautification initiative aims to transform the area into Punjab’s most dynamic employment and innovation hub.
A recent meeting between members of the Mohali IT City Companies Association and GMADA chief administrator Vishesh Sarangal discussed the upcoming landscaping plans for the stretch from Airport Road to IT City, including internal roads and public spaces.
Global Design Vision for Mohali
Manipal Dhariwal, President of the IT City Companies Association and CEO & Co-Founder of Netsmartz Group, emphasized the importance of creating a visually appealing, globally competitive urban environment. Drawing inspiration from Delhi Aerocity and Singapore’s cityscape, the proposal includes:
“With this initiative, GMADA and the IT City Association aim to transform the IT City corridor into a vibrant, globally recognizable gateway that reflects the spirit of innovation driving Punjab’s IT sector,” Dhariwal said.
Next Steps
A senior GMADA official confirmed that the Authority will soon appoint a consultant and float a tender to select a world-class architect for designing and executing the project. The development will give the area a distinct identity that reflects Mohali’s growing global stature and fosters a strong professional community.
IT City’s evolution from its first housing scheme in 2014 to today’s large-scale infrastructure expansion showcases Punjab’s growing prominence in India’s digital economy.
