Cognite Expands in India: Bengaluru to Power the Future of Industrial AI

Cognite, a global leader in industrial AI and data solutions, is making a bold move in India by establishing a new Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Bengaluru this March. Having already set up operations in Oslo, Texas, and Japan, the company sees India as the perfect destination to attract top-tier AI and ML talent. Under the leadership of Guru Ananthanarayanan, Managing Director of Cognite India, the Bengaluru centre is set to become the R&D hub for scaling Cognite’s AI framework, Atlas AI—a next-gen industrial AI solution that simplifies complex data processing
Making Industrial AI as Intuitive as ChatGPT
Cognite provides cutting-edge AI and data solutions for asset-heavy industries like manufacturing, oil & gas, and energy. These industries rely on multiple IT and operational technology (OT) systems, such as SAP, Salesforce, ServiceNow, IoT sensors, SCADA, and PLCs. Accessing and analyzing this data is often complex and time-consuming.

Ananthanarayanan explains, “A service technician might have to access 10 to 15 different systems to gather relevant data. With Cognite, they can now query complex datasets in natural language, and our AI retrieves, analyzes, and provides actionable insights—making industrial AI as intuitive as ChatGPT for manufacturing and energy companies.”
Atlas AI: Transforming Industrial Intelligence
Cognite’s Atlas AI is revolutionizing industrial AI with three key pillars:
Major players like Aker BP, ExxonMobil, Yokogawa, and Vedanta use Cognite’s AI to predict failures, suggest resolutions, and even execute them autonomously. The no-code Atlas AI framework allows users to create AI agents with simple text prompts, integrating LLMs from OpenAI, Meta, and Anthropic for real-time insights.
Why Bengaluru? The Talent Hub
Cognite’s decision to establish its India GCC in Bengaluru stems from the city’s unmatched AI and data engineering talent pool. The company plans to hire 150+ engineers by 2025, focusing on AI/ML, data science, software engineering, and industrial domain expertise. While Pune and Hyderabad were considered, Bengaluru’s deep tech ecosystem made it the preferred choice. “For niche roles like OPC UA protocol experts, which are rare even globally, Bengaluru has a strong talent base,” says Ananthanarayanan. Cognite is also redefining tech hiring by seeking engineers who bring AI-powered tools to enhance their own efficiency. “We are not just a backend development centre,” Ananthanarayanan affirms. “India will lead end-to-end product ownership, from conceptualization to execution
