Availity’s India Expansion Plans
Availity, backed by Novo Holdings (the controlling shareholder of Novo Nordisk), currently employs around 250 people at its Bengaluru capability centre. The company aims to increase headcount to 400 employees by end-2025 and further scale to 800 employees by end-2026, according to Chief Operating Officer Sean Keneally.
The India centre presently manages product engineering, infrastructure, and some back-office functions. Going forward, it will expand into technology, product management, operations, and corporate functions, positioning India as a critical innovation hub for the company.
Role of GCCs in Healthcare IT Growth
Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in India have evolved from being perceived as low-cost outsourcing hubs to becoming strategic innovation engines. Availity’s India expansion aligns with this shift, as it looks to strengthen collaboration with several of its major customers who also run GCCs in India.
By leveraging India’s deep talent pool, Availity aims to develop next-generation healthcare IT solutions that address the needs of payers, providers, and insurers globally.
Addressing US Healthcare Challenges
The expansion comes at a crucial time for the US healthcare system, which is under pressure due to reimbursement cuts, coverage reductions, and rising costs. Lower Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement rates have made care “almost unaffordable” for providers, leaving limited budgets for innovation.
Keneally emphasized that Availity is “opportunistic at this point in time, helping customers get through financial troubles”, highlighting the company’s role in providing cost-effective technology solutions to address industry challenges.
