Vizag Poised to Become India’s Next Global Digital Gateway

Andhra Pradesh’s Minister for Information Technology, Electronics, and Real-Time Governance, Nara Lokesh, said that Visakhapatnam (Vizag) has the potential to reach the development level of Hyderabad within 10 years.
Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony of Sify Technologies’ ₹1,500 crore AI Edge Data Centre and Open Cable Landing Station (CLS), Lokesh emphasized that while Hyderabad took three decades to evolve into a global technology hub, Vizag could achieve similar success in just a decade with the right investments and infrastructure. 
Sify Technologies’ ₹1,500 Crore Data Centre Project
The 50-megawatt AI Edge Data Centre is being developed by NASDAQ-listed Sify Technologies on 3.6 acres of government-allotted land in Visakhapatnam. 
Lokesh said the new facility would transform Vizag into “India’s next global digital gateway, boosting subsea connectivity and expanding AI computing capacity at the edge level. 
The project is expected to generate over 1,000 jobs and enhance data exchange between India and Southeast Asian nations such as Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Australia 
Vision for a $1 Trillion Vizag Economy by 2047
Outlining the state’s economic roadmap, Lokesh said the government aims to make Visakhapatnam a $1 trillion economy by 2047.  He revealed that Andhra Pradesh is attracting $120 billion in investments, with nearly half expected to flow into the Greater Visakhapatnam Economic Region. 
Massive Job Creation Underway

Lokesh announced ambitious employment targets, including the creation of five lakh IT sector jobs in Vizag and 20 lakh jobs statewide under the government’s Super Six program. 

He said the state’s double-engine government, backed by strong central support, was moving ahead at “bullet train speed” to accelerate development 

Centre’s Confidence in Andhra Pradesh’s Growth

The minister noted that the Central Government was choosing Andhra Pradesh as the launchpad for several new reforms, recognizing the state’s ability to implement policies swiftly. 

“Today, Honourable Prime Minister is going all out to support the economic agenda of Andhra Pradesh,” Lokesh said, underscoring the synergy between the Centre and the state. 

Future Investment Announcements and GCC Push

Lokesh added that in the next three months, the government would announce multiple new investments in Visakhapatnam, including India’s largest steel plant and the country’s single largest FDI project. 

He also said the state government was working to position Visakhapatnam as the capital of Global Capability Centres (GCCs), aiming to attract multinational corporations and tech firms to establish specialized centers in the city.
