Current Landscape
India currently hosts over 1,900 Global Capability Centers (GCCs), employing nearly 19 lakh people, with Maharashtra alone accounting for 400 GCCs and about 4 lakh professionals. The new policy envisions establishing another 400 GCCs, potentially doubling employment opportunities in the state
Geographic Focus
The expansion will strategically focus not only on major cities but also on tier-2 and tier-3 hubs such as Nashik, Nagpur, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, aiming to decentralize growth and ensure balanced regional development
Priority Sectors
The policy emphasizes the creation of GCCs across high-value, knowledge-intensive sectors, including Aerospace & Defence, Agriculture & Food Processing, Gems & Jewellery, Logistics & Metal Mining, Pharmaceuticals & Chemicals, Green Energy, Information Technology, and Automotive
Incentives for GCCs
To attract global and domestic investors, the state government will offer a wide range of incentives and support measures, including additional land allocation and reserved plots in industrial estates, infrastructure development funds, reliable water and power supply, flexible working hours, and property tax benefits
Alignment with National Vision
Aligned with India’s “Developed India 2047” vision, which targets building a $30 trillion economy driven by knowledge, innovation, and research-led investments, this policy positions Maharashtra competitively alongside progressive states such as Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat. Its focus on tier-2 and tier-3 cities, comprehensive incentives, and sectoral depth make Maharashtra a frontrunner in attracting global corporations to establish innovation hubs
Conclusion
The Maharashtra GCC Policy 2025 is a landmark initiative designed to strengthen the state’s role in India’s global economic integration, enhance job opportunities for skilled professionals, and create world-class economic centres. By enabling both urban and rural participation, the policy seeks to drive sustainable, inclusive, and innovation-led growth over the next decade
