MANGALURU, INDIA: An ambitious new Information Technology (IT) Centre, to be developed by KEONICS (Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation Limited), is set to be ready in the next two-and-a-half years. This state-of-the-art facility will be located at Bluberry Hills in Mangaluru, occupying a 3.5-acre plot of land. According to KEONICS Chairman Sharat Bache Gowda, the project will initially offer 400,000 to 500,000 square feet of space for IT companies, with plans to expand to 1 million square feet in future years.
Speaking at the ‘Techwaves 2025: Rise of the Silicon Beach of India’ event, Mr. Gowda revealed that the bidding process for the project will be announced next month. The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for June, marking the beginning of a major tech infrastructure initiative in Mangaluru. The project is expected to take approximately two-and-a-half years to complete, with a focus on creating a cutting-edge, plug-and-play facility for IT companies.
Mangaluru’s Growing Potential in IT and Tech
Mangaluru has long been identified as a key growth hub for IT and technology, and the development of this IT Centre further reinforces the city’s growing prominence in the global tech arena. In his 2025-26 budget speech, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah highlighted Mangaluru as one of three cities in the state where KEONICS will establish new Global Technology Centres. This initiative is part of the larger vision to build a startup ecosystem in Mangaluru, Mysuru, Hubballi-Dharwad, and Kalaburagi.
Capt. Brijesh Chowta, MP for Dakshina Kannada, emphasized that Mangaluru has long been poised for IT growth, adding that the city’s potential extends beyond IT into sectors such as petrochemicals, maritime, and healthcare. As part of his ongoing work, Capt. Chowta is also pushing for the establishment of a Maritime University in Mangaluru.

The ‘Techwaves 2025’ event focused on the rise of Global Capability Centers (GCCs) and their increasing role in the region. Other panel sessions explored the rise of deep tech industries in Mangaluru and the city’s emerging dominance in the IT services sector.
With the ongoing development of tech infrastructure and a growing talent pool, Mangaluru is on track to solidify its status as a major player in the IT and tech sectors.
