Infosys Expands GCC Practice, Appoints Deval Shah as New GCC Head

Infosys has announced the expansion of its Global Capability Centre (GCC) practice, transforming its existing Centre of Excellence (COE) into a full-fledged practice. This move is part of the company’s larger growth initiative, Project Altius, which aims to secure multi-year transformation deals for setting up new GCCs through models like Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT), assisted captives, and joint ventures (JVs). Infosys is also focused on scaling existing GCCs by providing embedded support in areas such as legal, tax compliance, and commercials
Leadership Appointment: Deval Shah Takes the Helm
Infosys has appointed Deval Shah, a seasoned veteran with over 20 years of experience in the IT sector, as the head of its GCC practice . Shah brings a wealth of experience from his previous role as the MD and Country Head of India for Danske IT and Support Services. Currently, Shah serves as Vice President (VP) and Delivery Head at Infosys. His deep understanding of managing large-scale IT operations will play a key role in advancing Infosys’ GCC services
Strategic Win with Danske Bank
A major factor in Infosys’ expanding GCC capabilities is its partnership with Danske Bank, which awarded Infosys a $454-million contract. As part of this deal, Infosys acquired Danske Bank’s IT center in India, which employs around 1,400 professionals . This acquisition not only strengthens Infosys’ IT service offerings but also enhances its expertise in managing complex GCCs, which will be crucial as the company scales its practice under Shah’s leadership.
Expanding Market for GCCs
The global demand for GCCs is experiencing rapid growth, and Infosys is tapping into this opportunity with strong momentum in its deal pipeline. According to internal communications from Infosys, one of the company’s key growth priorities is to increase business from GCCs, with significant opportunities to both set up new centers and optimize existing ones. In this context, Infosys has already seen success, including the setup of a GCC for Lufthansa in Bengaluru as part of a $300-million IT contract to enhance the airline’s software and product development
Industry Trends: Rivals Also Strengthening GCC Focus
Infosys is not the only IT company focusing on GCCs. Cognizant has recently appointed Sailaja Josyula as the global head of its GCC service line. Similarly, Wipro is reportedly setting up a dedicated GCC service line, aiming to help clients with transformational initiatives. In an interview, Cognizant’s CEO, Ravi Kumar, noted that GCCs are playing a critical role in business transformation and innovation. The growing importance of GCCs is seen as an opportunity for IT firms to partner with these centers, contributing to both engineering innovations and operational efficiencies
Conclusion: A Stronger Position for Infosys
Infosys’ expansion of its GCC practice under the leadership of Deval Shah positions the company to leverage growing market opportunities and meet increasing demand for digital transformation and global service delivery. As part of its strategy, Infosys is set to tap into high-value opportunities by supporting clients in setting up, scaling, and optimizing GCCs , which will help drive continued growth and innovation
