Cognizant to Invest ₹1,583 Crore in Visakhapatnam; 8,000 New Jobs to Be Created by 2029

Visakhapatnam, June 2025 – Global IT major Cognizant Technology Solutions has announced a significant investment of ₹1,582.98 crore to establish a state-of-the-art IT and IT-enabled Services (ITES) campus in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This major development is poised to generate 8,000 new jobs and significantly boost the region’s IT ecosystem.

Land Allotted at Token Lease Price

As part of the agreement, the Andhra Pradesh government will allocate 21.31 acres of land at Kapulauppada under the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA). The land will be leased at a nominal rate of just 99 paise per acre, reflecting the state’s commitment to attracting large-scale IT investments.

Operational Timeline and Strategic Importance

Cognizant has set a target of March 2029 to commence commercial operations from the Visakhapatnam campus. The facility will be 100% self-funded, underscoring Cognizant’s long-term commitment to Andhra Pradesh as a key IT hub.

The company’s move mirrors a similar initiative by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), which was earlier allotted 21.16 acres in the same region to establish a campus with an investment of ₹1,370 crore, aimed at creating 12,000 jobs.

A Boost to Andhra Pradesh’s IT Ambitions

This development reaffirms Andhra Pradesh’s growing stature as an emerging technology hub, especially in tier-2 cities like Visakhapatnam. The influx of global IT companies is expected to drive employment, digital infrastructure development, and economic growth in the state.

“With the entire project being 100% self-funded, Cognizant’s expansion into Visakhapatnam reinforces its long-term commitment to Andhra Pradesh,” the official release noted.
