Andhra Pradesh Forms 360-Degree GCC Advisory Council to Accelerate Global Capability Centre Growth

In a bold strategic move to position Andhra Pradesh as the next major hub for Global Capability Centres (GCCs), the state government has announced the constitution of a 360-degree GCC Advisory Council.

Headed by Nara Lokesh, Minister for IT, Electronics, and HRD, the council brings together an influential mix of industry stakeholders, including:

  • CXOs of global corporations
  • Industry bodies such as NASSCOM
  • Business councils
  • Consulting leaders
  • Real estate developers
  • Leading academic institutions

This initiative is designed to significantly accelerate GCC investments and establish Andhra Pradesh as a national leader in the digital economy.

Understanding GCCs and Their Importance

Global Capability Centres are strategic units set up by multinational corporations to handle key functions such as:

  • Research & Development (R&D)
  • IT services
  • Finance operations
  • Procurement
  • Customer services

Unlike traditional outsourcing, GCCs are wholly owned by parent companies, enabling:

  •  Greater innovation
  •  Higher efficiency
  • ️ Deeper integration with global business operations

Currently, India hosts over 1,600 GCCs employing 1.6 million professionals. Andhra Pradesh is now making an aggressive pitch to capture the next wave of GCC investments.

Mandate of the Advisory Council

The council’s wide-ranging responsibilities include:

  • Preparing a five-year strategic roadmap for the GCC sector in Andhra Pradesh.
  • Creating a future-ready talent ecosystem in partnership with top institutions like IIT Tirupati and IIM Visakhapatnam, and focused skill development programs.
  • Driving innovation and R&D through global collaborations.
  • Developing world-class infrastructure, including IT parks, plug-and-play facilities, and Grade-A commercial spaces.
  • Reviewing and monitoring the implementation of IT & GCC Policy (4.0).
  • Leading branding and global outreach efforts through roadshows in the US, Europe, and Asia.

Additionally, the government has sanctioned a three-month program of national and international roadshows aimed at attracting global corporations and promoting Andhra Pradesh as the preferred GCC destination.

Impact on Andhra Pradesh’s Economy

This strategic initiative is expected to:

  • Unlock a new phase of GCC-driven growth
  • Generate thousands of high-value jobs
  • Strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s position in the global technology ecosystem

With this effort, Andhra Pradesh aims to become a powerhouse for innovation, digital solutions, and global business services
