Apple Expands India Footprint with Chennai GCC and Mumbai Retail Store

Apple Inc. is significantly expanding its operations in India, establishing its first dedicated corporate office in Chennai and opening a second retail store in Mumbai. These developments reinforce India’s role as both a high-growth market and a strategic operational hub for the technology giant.
Chennai GCC: Strategic Corporate Hub
The new Chennai office, leased at DLF CyberCity IT Park in Porur for approximately 20,000 sq. ft., will function as a Global Capability Centre (GCC). It is intended to manage key global operations, demonstrating Apple’s commitment to leveraging India’s technology talent for strategic business functions.
Mumbai Retail Expansion
Apple’s second Mumbai retail store will be located at Oberoi Sky City Mall, Borivali (East), covering around 12,616 sq. ft. This will be Apple’s sixth retail store in India, adding to its presence in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Pune, and Noida. The expansion aims to enhance customer access, strengthen brand visibility, and support the growing installed base of Apple devices in India.
Performance Highlights and Market Context
Apple’s expansion coincides with its record-breaking first fiscal quarter of 2026, which concluded on December 27, 2025:
India is now a key market for Apple, supported by favorable government policies, including the Make in India initiative and PLI schemes, which have helped scale iPhone production to about 25% of global output, a sharp increase from previous years.
Strategic Implications
The Chennai GCC and Mumbai retail expansion underscore Apple’s dual focus on operational depth and market growth in India. The GCC will consolidate critical global functions, while the retail expansion strengthens consumer engagement.
